Madoff Auditor Sentencing Postponed Until March
The sentencing for David G. Friehling, the auditor of notorious Ponzi schemer Bernard Madoff, has been delayed until March 18, 2011, according to a spokesperson for U.S. District Court Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein in Manhattan.
Formally charged last March for his role in perpetuating Madoff’s $60 billion Ponzi scheme by falsely claiming he conducted legitimate audits of the scammer’s firm, Friehling at first pleaded not guilty last July before reversing his position and pleading guilty in November. The charges filed against him include securities fraud, investment advisor fraud, making false filings to the Securities and Exchange Commission, and obstructing the IRS. Put together they could potentially mean up to 108 years in jail.
