State Education Commissioner to Resign
New York State Education Commissioner David M. Steiner announced yesterday that he will be resigning from his position within the state government in order to focus on national education issues while teaching at the university level, according to the New York Times, planning to officially leave at the end of this summer. Steiner, who was appointed in 2009, had made it a point to promote teacher preparation and training in order to further New York’s educational goals. During his tenure, Steiner also led an effort to raise the standards of New York’s math and English assessment, making them more difficult for students to pass; he also helped the state secure additional federal funding through helping New York be one of only 10 states to win the federal Race to the Top contest in August, its application judged to be second only to Massachusetts.
Schools Chancellor Merryl H. Tisch praised Steiner as one of America’s leading educational reform visionaries and promised a smooth transition as the department moves forward with its agenda.

Lets hope for the best.
I hope he will be able to make some headway in the education system. I would have rather heard that he would focusing in the k12 system but I'm glad to hear about it regardless.
